Flu Vaccination Drive on October 5 Stopsley Village Practice Sees Strong Community Response

A flu vaccination campaign held on October 5, 2024 at our GP practice proved highly successful, with a large number of patients turning up to receive their flu shots ahead of the upcoming flu season. The clinics were organised by the GP team to encourage early immunisation and protect vulnerable populations from the flu.

Approximately 450 people, including the elderly, children, and individuals with chronic health conditions, received the vaccine during the campaign. Dr. Shazia Tahseen, the practice’s lead GP, expressed her gratitude for the strong community response. “We are delighted to see so many people taking proactive steps to protect themselves and others. This kind of turnout helps us reduce the risk of severe flu cases as we approach the winter months,” she said.

The GP practice organised the event to make it convenient for residents to get vaccinated close to home. The practice management ensured a smooth process by employing additional staff on hand to assist with queues management and the overall wait did not exceed 5 minutes.

“Influenza is highly contagious virus that can lead to severe illness, complications, and even hospitalisation, particularly in older adults, young children, pregnant women and individuals with health conditions” said Dr. Nighat Azhar (GP Partner). “The community’s participation today is a testament to that understanding.”

Patients who were unable to attend the October 5 event are encouraged to schedule appointments at the GP practice in the coming weeks, as flu vaccinations will continue to be offered throughout the season.
